The National Coalition for Grieving Children is a nonprofit organization created to support children who are grieving. Children grieve in many different ways. A child that has been bullied will sometimes experience an aftermath of grief. Other forms of grief can occur in children who have lost family members or close friends to death, illness, suicide, tragedy, etc.
New family members entering the home or existing family members exiting the home may cause your child a fair amount of grief. Parents who divorce and force the child to choose can cause unprecedented grief and trauma to their child. Relocation away from family and friends may also cause terrible grief and trauma to a child.
Many people are not aware that grief can sometimes cause stress among children and prevent them from learning and performing to their potential. Very often, grief-impacted children do not perform well, even with simple tasks at home or school.
Grief can be confused and mislabeled as stress and/or anxiety, so it is important to have your child evaluated by a medical professional as soon as possible. Children who are grieving need support, positive influences, activities to get keep them motivated, and a support plan to help them overcome the mental, emotional, (and sometimes physical), side effects of grief. That's why we started The National Coalition for Grieving Children in 2015. We support grief-stricken children and aid families in putting the pieces back together again.
